Welcome to the History of Heeley archive created by the Heeley's History Workshop. The articles in the index below were published by the Workshop over a period from 1986 to the present day. Meetings have been held regularly on Monday afternoons at Heeley Bank School since 1982 which is testament to their dedication and enthusiasm. The aims of bringing this valuable record to the Internet are to preserve their work, bring it to the widest possible audience and hopefully to stimulate a few memories.
The first publication on the Internet of "Old Heeley" Issue 1 was by Eric Youle who runs an Australian based Family History Web Site at http://www.powerup.com.au/~exy/. The site contains a mine of historical and genealogical information relating to the Sheffield area.
All of the material linked under this page is the work of the "Heeley's History" Workshop. The original publications are better quality than I am able to recreate here as many artifacts have been introduced by the scanning process (the original publications were typed and photocopied). Issue 1 (March 1986) contains a scanned image of the original cover but all other editions are text to reduce file size. Unfortunately the quality of some images is quite poor owing to the original publication process but I hope to improve these in time.
